AIM
The project aims at organising a two-day conference in Copenhagen for representatives of European Library & Information Science (LIS) schools (August 2005). The theme to be addressed will be: “Library & Information Science Education in Europe: Issues in Joint Curriculum Development and Bologna Perspectives.”A group of LIS education experts (50) selected on a Europe-wide basis will explore a number of issues pre-defined by the organisers. The main short-term goals of the conference deal with LIS courses in terms of the Bologna Declaration, the concept of a core curriculum in European LIS education, the current state of curriculum development in LIS in Europe and opportunities for enhanced networking and collaboration.
Twelve workshops will allow for an in-depth treatment of the various issues in European LIS education. Each workshop will produce a text summarising observations, ideas and suggestions.
The tangible results of the project will be the summaries of viewpoints, ideas and proposals presented by European LIS educators in a broad sense and embodied in the reviews and reports resulting from the conference. The results from the conference will serve as a platform for accelerating the Bologna Process within the European LIS education community.
A publication will be prepared to present the findings from the conference. The content will be accessible from this site shortly following the conference.
