Research strand

"An important, pioneering paper creates a new research paradigm or strand." (Schwartz; Fang & Parthasarathy, 2005, 33).

"Strand" defined by WordNet 2.1. as among other meanings):

• a pattern forming a unity within a larger structural whole; "he tried to pick up the strands of his former life"; "I could hear several melodic strands simultaneously"
