Bush, Vannevar (1890-1974)
Vannevar Bush
was a pioneer within computer science and what today is termed
hypertext (but
was described by him in the model of the machine "Memex").
Bush's "Memex" was based on microfilm technology. It stored
information that could be identified and retrieved in many different ways, based
on ideas of associative
indexing. The system allowed the user to make input in the form of notes and
comments. Bush tried to construe such a machine, "the rapid selector" aimed
at scanning microfilmed abstract on available literature.
