Facsimile

WordNet 2.1 defines the noun facsimile: "

• facsimile, autotype (an exact copy or reproduction)

• facsimile, facsimile machine, fax (duplicator that transmits the copy by wire or radio)"

Facsimile editions are exact reproductions which are, for example, important as source literature for scholars.

In electronic publishing are pdf-files often chosen to serve the function as facsimile editions.
