Search profile

The term "search profile" is often used synonymously with query. Both terms refer to a set of search terms selected in order to search a given system in an optimal way. A search profile may be stored in the computer and new information sent to users based on stored profiles (SDI). In search profiles are terms normally organized in facets. It is an art to make good profiles.

A case study is provided by Hjørland (1986/1988).
