User education / user instruction
The teaching of information and literature seeking and the use of databases, libraries, subject literatures and scientific and scholarly information sources.

Often is user education very limited in scope and teaching resources. It may, for example be short instructions in a couple of hours in a library's OPAC or a few databases or reference sources.

More ambitious courses integrating information seeking with research methodology are rare. One important exception is a number of reports issued by Roskilde University Center in the 1970s  (Bermann et al, 1977a+b+c). Recently has the concept of information literacy helped strengthening the field.
