Can I join the library? How?

The library is a public library. You have to enlist as a member of the Royal Library. Students and employees at the Royal School of Library and Information Science with a permanent residence in Denmark or southern Sweden can register and loan books. Danish civil registration number (CPR) must be shown at the final registration). Please join the library to be able to borrow materials from the library. Follow the instructions on the online registration and fill out the form. Choose student at the Royal School of Library and Infomation Sciences. Do not fill out the question on faculty.
When you have succeded, show your CPR-number to the staff, so they can open it for use.

I have changed my address, who do I tell?

You do not have to inform the library of your move, but you do have to inform the student administration office. Remember to keep your email data updated, as this address is used to send information on recall notices etc. Just login to the catalogue and update your information.

Can I use my student card as a library card?

No, you cannot use your student card to borrow books from the library. 

What are the library's opening hours?

Opening hours are Monday to Thursday 9-16 and Friday 9-14. Closed on public holidays and 24/12 & 31/12. Keep an eye on the homepage for special closing days.

How can I contact the library?

Where can I find the library?

The Library's address is:
Birketinget 6, 2300 Copenhagen S.
The library is situated at the C-wing of the building, second floor.

Where do I find the Catalogue?

The library is in the process of changing OPAC, so the catalogue is incomplete. The new catalogue is part of the Royal Library's OPAC Rex. You can find most of our materials in this part of Rex but not any references to databases, electronic journals or e-books. You can locate any materials marked "Biblioteksskolen" here.

Can I renew loans and place holds myself?

Yes, if you log in to the library catalogue in the top right hand corner with your user CPR and PIN. To renew your loans please press the link to "loan" and use the "Renew" button. To place a hold on a book, conduct a search that retrieves the specific book, and have the full record displayed with all holdings. You can then place a hold by clicking on the hand icon "request". Please note that it is not possible to place holds on books which are not on loan, also it is not possible to place holds on our journals and any articles placed in "Shelfmark: Nordisk BDI-indeks."

What is Nordisk BDI-indeks?

If the shelfmark is marked Nordisk BDI-Indeks the post is a part of a bibliographic database of Scandinavia LIS-litterature. The base is included in the catalogue in our part of Rex.

How will I be notified when my books are available?

When books that you have placed a hold on, or ordered through interlibrary loan, are available for you to pick up, the library will notify you via e-mail.

Do I get recall notices via e-mail?

If you registered an email address to your borrowers card, all notices from the library will be sent by email.

Can I access electronic journals and databases from home?

Yes, students and staff at Royal School of Library and Information Science have this opportunity. Access is provided through the DEFF-catalogue. The user ID and PIN are identical to the ones you have received from the library in an e-mail. Please note that you must select 'Danmarks Biblioteksskole' (Royal school of Library and Information Science) as organization. The code is personal. If you have forgotten the code, contact the library.

Can I order books and articles from other libraries?

Yes, if the library does not hold a copy of the literature you request, please place a "special order" in the library catalogue. Before you do so please check if you can find it in the Royal Library's OPAC Rex.

How can I recommend purchase of new books and journals?

The library is happy to receive recommendations for purchase. You can send recommendations via email: dbilaan@db.dk. The library staff will consider your suggestions.

Why can't I open documents in full-text from your server (biblis)?

Links to our full-text documents open a window with a short bibliographic presentation of the thesis and a new window with the PDF. If this does not work, hold down the [Ctrl] key and click on the link. The digital archive, Hyperion will soon be replaced by a new system.
