If you have a reference:
Read the reference and make sure
it is correct.
If you look for our own books
(in print):
Go to our part of the
catalogue in Rex. If the book is on the shelf
you can go directly to the library and get it - no need
to order it online first.
If the book is out you can place a reservation. You have
to be a
member of
the Royal Library to do this. When you enlist choose
student at the Royal School of Library and Infomation
Sciences, and do not fill out the question on faculty.
If you look for electronic books, journals or
databases:
You can not use the library system Rex to find
electronic books, journals or databases. If you try to
access any electronic resources from Rex you will be
rejected as Rex corrupts the data on our IP-numbers.
- Your strategy to find electronic books, journals or
databases while you are present on the school is to go
via DEFNet. Search
for the name of the database or the name of the journal.
Read the text on the page. To go via the machines (PC's)
on campus is in many cases enough to gain access due to
the IP-numbers. If you need to use a special login you
will find the information in DEFNet.
If you need to find electronic books you have to
search for "Ebrary" in
DEFNET. When you have accessed Ebrary you can
search for the title you need. If you are present at the
school go directly to
Ebrary.
If you are not present on campus you have to login to
DEFNet with the code that we have mailed you for remote
access. Your ID is the number on your study card. If you
have problems please contact the
library.
New employees have to contact the library for a code.
Remember that the library has many journals in
print too. You can copy them for free in the library.
You can search the journal name in our part of the
catalogue in Rex. The newest issues of the
journals can be found in the library in C2.06; older
issues are kept in the B building in the basement or in
one of the special collections. You can read
where in the catalogue. If you are a student in Aalborg,
send us a mail to request a copy, if you do not find it
online.
If you cannot find the
literature in our catalogue in Rex:
Start your search in the
catalogue for the Royal Library - Rex. If you
find it here, you can order it to be delivered here at
DB. You'll need to be a
member
of the Royal Library in order to log in and ordering.
When the material is ready to pick up you'll get an
email. Remember to keep your email info updated.
Do not use the interface named
KUBIS for
finding our materials in Rex. It's not there.
If you have a subject but not a
reference:
Consider you needs. Sometimes
the answers are not at the Royal School of Library and
Information Science Library. If your subject has an
additional subject to libraries you may use a different research
library. Each Danish research libraries pay for
their access to relevant databases, electronic books and
journals to cover their universities' subjects. So
sometimes you get a better coverage someplace else.
Now you have to consider what kind of information you
seek. You need to decide on coverage, actuality and
media.
If for instance you have a
reference to an interesting book or an article you can
study the reference list. Sometimes you find inspiration
here; expressions, subjects or the name of a writer. You
can then go on to choosing a relevant
database.
If you decide to look closer at our part of the
catalogue in Rex you've limited yourself to
books in print. If you choose the page with 'Advanced'
search you can combine up to three search terms.
If you find a relevant publication in Rex consider
clicking on the classification code or any of the
subjects in the reference.
You cannot use classification codes to find books
purchased in 2008 or later. Classification has ceased. New books are placed in accession order.
You cannot start a search solely on the basis on a
classification code. You have to find something relevant
and expand your search from there.
You can off course just browse
in the library.
Our part of the
catalogue in Rex contains certain special
bibliographies, for instance Nordisk BDI-indeks.
