Vision

The Royal School of Library and Information Science, Denmark’s vision reflects the mission in light of the knowledge society’s changed competence requirements. The core competences, knowledge organisation and information retrieval, constitute the classic foundation beneath the work of libraries and organisations with the collection, structuring, management, division, retrieval and communication of information and knowledge. The aim of research and development within these core competences is to optimise the interplay between producers and users of information and knowledge.
The vision may be seen as a direct extension of the expanded library concept in the new Libraries Act, and as a reflection of the long-term agreement and the focus points of cultural policy. Regarding the background, please also refer to the background analysis in Appendix 3.

RSLIS will:

• be the specialist in the national work division process within knowledge organisation and information retrieval

• position RSLIS as a central player in the development of the Danish library world

• contribute to the reinforcement of the libraries’ children’s, pupils’, students’ and adults’ information competences regarding the use of the Internet and other digital resources

• fulfil society’s requirements for new central competences within knowledge, culture and information operations

• strengthen its position in the international library and information science environment

• offer a study environment that stimulates concentration on a subject and creates committed players in the knowledge society with the will to further support society’s democratic and identity-creating cultural values

• constitute an attractive workplace that focuses on competence development and a constructive business culture with committed colleagues.
