Ph.d. projektet omhandler forskningsformidling og open access. Den videnskabelige kommunikation ændres markant i disse år. Forskeres publikationer bliver i stigende omfang frit tilgængelige via internettet. Forskere formidler deres resultater i tidsskrifter, der frit tilgængelige på Internettet (open acess journals) og både før og efter resultaterne udgives, lægges der kopier af artiklerne i online arkiver (open access repositories). Den udvikling har stor betydning for den måde forskning på optimal måde kan formidles og evalueres, da den derved formidles til en langt større gruppe. Udviklingen indenfor søgeteknologier bidrager ligeledes, da det åbner for nye formidlings- og evalueringsmuligheder. Blandt de nye muligheder kan nævnes Google Scholar, der er en frit tilgængelig søgemaskine, der anvender Googles Webcrawler til at indeksere Internettets indhold af videnskabeligt materiale. Disse to parallelle udviklinger kan åbne op for nye muligheder for formidling og evaluering af forskning.
